Libraries Saved!

Liverpool City Council’s budget has been hit with a 58% reduction in funding from Government. A consultation was begun about reductions to the city’s library service. After a month-long process, with discussions with community groups about their proposals, the Mayor has announced that all of the city’s libraries will remain open.

Carol Sung said “The consultation has shown how many people are passionate about our libraries. People are really keen to get involved. I would like to thank them for helping to keep them running.”

Mayor Joe Anderson said “There may be changes to the way libraries are run, with changed opening hours for example. The proposals are an exciting mixture of ideas, with community organisations and voluntary groups joining up to form new partnerships with the Council.”
