Quick Carlton update

Last year it was reported that the old Carlton cinema site, a blight on the area for decades, had changed ownership. Carol Sung and Stephen Twigg have been pressing hard for action on the site for some time.

Stephen recently met with the site's new owners PHD1, to hear of their plans. They intend to demolish the existing buildings and build some good-quality apartments. "I really welcome this," said Carol Sung "We've lived with this ugly eyesore for too long."

PHD1 have recently been awarded the contract for the £200m development of Chinatown. They are big players - you can have a look at the Echo story on their Chinatown development here.

They have met with the Council Planning Department several times to discuss their proposals for the Carlton before making a formal planning application. Carol has asked that when they are ready to reveal their plans, that they organise a public meeting. This will allow local people to come along and have a look at what is proposed and have their say on the plans before moving forward.

"Getting the Carlton sorted is still a huge priority for me," declared Carol, "We've waited for decades for someone to take action. I am determined to get it done."
